Rolex GMT Master Watches Online

More properly referred to as the Oyster Perpetual Date GMT Master, this model of luxury wristwatch is part of Rolex’s Professional Watch Collection. This timepiece is considered to be a classic that Rolex used to push the technical design boundaries of luxury chronographs. The original design proposition was put together with Pan American Airways in 1954, then one of the biggest brands in global aviation. The idea was that the GMT aspect of the design would help pilots to know exactly what Greenwich Mean Time was no matter which time zone they happened to be in. Like the Rolex Datejust, the original GMT Master also featured the date at the three o’clock position on the dial. In addition, the GMT Master benefits from a 24-hour display, fourth-hand complication. Soon, the model became popular not just with pilots but with all sorts of international travellers, or jet setters.

In the early 1980s, the Swiss watchmaker introduced the successor mode to the GMT Master, known as the GMT Master II. This model no longer had the independently-adjustable 24-hour hand. Instead, owners could make use of the watch’s rotating bezel to set the remote time wherever they wanted. Both the GMT Master and the GMT Master II are well-known for their two-tone model variants. Note that not all GMT Master watches have this feature, however. Among the better-known two-tone GMT Masters is the so-called Pepsi variant, so-called thanks to its red and blue bezel. Production of the GMT Master ceased in 1999 while the GMT Master II continued until 2007.
